The scammers that send these fraud letters are criminals. They want your money, and they use force to get it, if that is necessary. Secret Service has a warning on that here. I found such stories hard to believe until I recently was contacted by a friend. One of his friends, let me call her S, was killed in Lagos, Nigeria when she was trying to help a "dying man", that had contacted her.

This is what my friend told me:

It all started about 3 months back she was chatting as all we do in yahoo messenger. I was in Miami that time so we both were chatting. She told me that she is going to Lagos for her modelling show as she was a model working for a TV channel. She started receiving mails from Lagos from a guy names "Garuba". He used to mail her saying that he is a severe cancer patient and needs 1000 dollars for his urgent surgery. S told me that she received at least about 10 mails from him in that month. As she was supposed to go to Lagos she thought that it will be good to help someone who needs operation for a deadly disease like cancer. I remember that i was the only who dropped her to airport when she was leaving for Lagos. Everything was fine for a month. She used to call him once a week and she used to sound very normal. In her last call she told me she have helped him (scammer whom she didn't knew) with 1000 dollars for his surgery, and it was normal. But suddenly he started asking for more and more money, which she refused to give. She mailed me saying that "He abuses her on phone". I told her to leave Lagos soon.

After that I never talked to her. I tried to take Nigerian police help but they were bribed by those 419 scammers and police didn't take my case. As you suggested me, I contacted the Embassy in Nigeria for S. I got the worst news of my life that she is no more. She was admitted is the city hospital in Lagos by Nigerian police. The Embassy found news about her. Local doctors said that she passed away after she was brought to hospital. Police are guessing that she was been beaten to death. Doctors are saying that she was raped too. According to DNA reports she was brutally raped by more than 4 men's and beaten to death.

419 Scammers Using Google Search to Find New Victims?

419 Scammers are starting to use technology more often to swindle innocent victims. I see advanced and professionally designed e-mails and websites, clever social engineering skills and scam e-mails targeted at specific people on a daily basis. That was probably the aim of the scammer who used Google Search to find Yahoo! and AOL e-mail addresses of people in the USA, who were desperately in need of funds. Yes, the scammer did a Google Search for the search string: "email address of people in the USA that are in need of fund @yahoo or AOL mail". Among the search results was a link to my Lottery Scam page where I explain the methods used by Lottery scammers to swindle innocent victims. The scammer was dumb enough to click on the link, effectively revealing his IP address and the exact search string he used.

A couple of things immediately caught my attention when I analysed the visitor statistic data. The visitor was from Nigeria, with the IP address 196.1.179.153, one that is often involved in e-mail scams and spamming. His/her Internet service provider was Nitel, the principal telecommunications company in Nigeria. What struck me the most was the search string used by this visitor. Did the scammer really think he/she would find the e-mail address of a US citizen, looking for funds on the Internet, using a Yahoo! or AOL e-mail address and on top of that, leaving it on the web for anyone to use? It's like going to Amazon, hoping to find specials on 419 Scam Victims, or having a victim delivered to you on a silver tray. But is a search like this, really that far-fetched?

A couple of interesting theories came to mind when I analysed the search string.

419 scammers are targeting people living in the United States. Why? Perhaps they have a better success rate with Americans;
They prefer people using the e-mail services of Yahoo! and AOL. Why? The spam filter of Yahoo! and AOL is not as effective as Gmail's and it is probably easier for scammers to get through to people who use these e-mail services. Also note that the scammer did not look for Hotmail e-mail addresses. According to 419eater.com, some scammers do not like to converse with Hotmail users; and
They specifically target people in need of financial assistance. Why? People with severe financial problems are often desperate and will do anything to improve their financial position. 419 scammers exploit this desperation, making it easier to convince these victims.

I understand that it is hard to base solid theories on a single incident, so these are only a couple of possibilities from a personal point of view. 419 scammers send e-mails to many countries, not just America, they send e-mails to Gmail and other e-mail accounts, not just Yahoo! and AOL and they send e-mails in bulk, like a spammer with a shotgun approach, they often have no idea who the recipients would be.

What can we learn through this behaviour? Do not post your personal e-mail address in any public area on the web and do not reveal your financial status on the web. Scammers will use this to their advantage. If they have your e-mail address in their possession and at the same time know about your financial problems, then they can send you a highly targeted and convincing e-mail, putting them in the right place at the right time. I still think it was wishful thinking by the scammer to do such a narrow search, hoping to find a victim that fits this profile. However, this scammer inadvertently revealed one of their harvesting methods, so lets take the necessary precautions and make it harder for scammers to find new victims.

What Is Seminar

Seminar is, generally, a form of academic instruction, either at a university or offered by a commercial or professional organization. It has the function of bringing together small groups for recurring meetings, focusing each time on some particular subject, in which everyone present is requested to actively participate. This is often accomplished through an ongoing socratic dialogue with a seminar leader or instructor, or through a more formal presentation of research. Normally, participants must not be beginners in the field under discussion (at US universities, seminar classes are generally reserved for upper-class students, although at UK and Australian universities seminars are often used for all years). The idea behind the seminar system is to familiarize students more extensively with the methodology of their chosen subject and also to allow them to interact with examples of the practical problems that always occur during research work. It is essentially a place where assigned readings are discussed, questions can be raised and debates can be conducted. It is relatively informal, at least compared to the lescture system of academic instruction.

Seminars and events have always been implemented as a holistic experience to participants. Thus, organizing an event requires extensive planning and preparation with most work implemented at least a few months before the actual event. Most of the time, event organizers who have large budgets will turn to above the line marketing such as newspaper and magazine advertisements as well as radio and television advertising to publicize the event. Press releases may also be sent in to major newspapers, in order to create the awareness of the upcoming event. Additionally, large advertising media banners and posters can also be purchased to advertise the event in high human traffic areas. When using print advertising, the specific magazine or newspaper used must have the target audience of your event as their primary readership base. Also all print media should be copy written with an enticing approach, highlighting the extensive benefits of participation.

However, if budget is a problem, then below the line marketing may also do wonders. If the event is industry specific, mass faxing to companies belonging to the industry would be feasible. Additionally, dispatching sales personnel to attend to the requirements of large participant groups is an ideal and effective strategy. Mass emailing has become one of the most cost-efficient methods to reach out to large target audiences. This would be really useful if the event organizer already have an existing database. Otherwise, a list of names can be rented from database companies to attain the same results.

4. Collaboration with sponsors

Getting reputable sponsors to participate in an event will help boost the creditability of the event, as well as reduce costs. Sponsors can also help with marketing, as they also help publicize your event to their customers. Apart from that, some of the sponsors can chip in on venue rental in exchange for exhibition space or publicity for themselves. I've been promoting products through a variety of affiliate programs and by far my favorite is the ClickBank affiliate program.

People can be very negative about others' success because successful people remind us of our own shortcomings and failures, and it is the fear of failure that stops us leaving our comfort zone and taking on a new challenge.

The road to financial freedom is not always easy, it is your reaction to the ups and downs of your journey that will make the difference between success and failure...a positive mindset is a must to enable you to work towards your goals, negative thoughts and energy are not good for you or your business...if you think you can, you can!! If you think you can't...well I don't need to say do I?

Develop a positive mindset and try and surround yourself with positive, like minded people. The most successful business people have usually tried and failed before achieving success...these failures are seen as part of a learning process which brought them to where they are today.

Become an Authority in your Market.

With an online business you mainly work solo. You are not part of a corporate structure so it is your role to create a comfortable environment for your customers. Be seen an expert in your particular niche area, someone who is innovative, who brings the latest ideas and developments to your field. Having strong leadership skills strengthens your position and the knock on effect will drive customers to you who want to gain from your expertise.

I apply these basic principles to help and mentor others in our team as they are what helped me grow my business. Some of the skills I already had, others I developed over time. Life is an infinite learning process and I am continually discovering new things to help me succeed with my online business.
